Since 2019, I’ve been utilizing Arthrex ACP (Autologous Conditioned Plasma) as part of my regenerative medicine protocols for dogs suffering from osteoarthritis (OA) and tendinopathies. Over the past several years, this technology has become one of my go-to tools for treating musculoskeletal pain and promoting soft tissue healing—especially in active, aging, or working dogs.

What Is Arthrex ACP?

Arthrex ACP is a point-of-care platelet-rich plasma (PRP) system that allows us to concentrate a dog’s own platelets from a small blood draw. These platelets are rich in growth factors and anti-inflammatory mediators that can help modulate inflammation, encourage tissue regeneration, and reduce pain in damaged joints or soft tissues.

The process is fast and minimally invasive—within 15 minutes, we can prepare and inject the ACP directly into the affected area, whether it’s a joint with arthritis or a tendon showing signs of chronic strain.

How ACP Helps Dogs with OA and Tendon Injuries

In dogs with osteoarthritis, ACP helps reduce joint inflammation and promote a healthier synovial environment, often leading to improved mobility and reduced pain over time. It’s especially valuable in early to moderate OA, where preserving joint health is the priority.

For tendinopathies—such as biceps, supraspinatus, or Achilles injuries—ACP provides a regenerative approach to decrease chronic inflammation and support tendon healing. I often incorporate it into comprehensive rehabilitation programs, combining it with therapeutic exercises, laser therapy, and more.

A Multimodal Approach: Combining ACP with ESWT or Arthramid

Since 2019, I’ve treated a wide range of patients with ACP and found it most effective when used as part of a multimodal strategy. In some cases, I combine ACP with:

  • Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT): to enhance local tissue regeneration and pain relief
  • Arthramid Vet (2.5% Polyacrylamide Hydrogel): to improve joint stability and reduce inflammation over the long term

This integrative approach is tailored to each patient’s needs and allows us to address pain and dysfunction from multiple angles—leading to better outcomes and faster recovery.

Is ACP Right for Your Dog?

If your dog has been diagnosed with osteoarthritis, is showing signs of tendon injury, or hasn’t responded well to standard medications, ACP may be a beneficial next step. As a regenerative option that uses your dog’s own blood, it offers a safe, natural, and effective way to promote healing and comfort.
